About the event

An openly gay man was the strategic brains of the March on Washington, an event attended by 250,000 people that went off without a hitch. His name is Bayard Rustin. A community organizer and strategist extraordinaire, Bayard was a logistical weapon. He loved Black people fiercely, fighting for their improved quality of life through organizations such as the Congress for Racial Equality and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Funny enough, Bayard’s maternal grandmother was a charter member of the NAACP! He was raised in the organizing tradition. Sharing meals with distinguished thought leaders like W.E.B. Du Bois and Mary McLeod Bethune was the norm. Join us as we uplift LGBTQIA+ History Month and explore the personification of not accepting scraps.
