Virtual Event

The 1955 Bus Boycott reinvigorated Black activists, organizers, and everyday people. It also ushered us into the Modern Civil Rights Movement as we know it. HB takes a look at a key revolutionary figure whose contributions shaped the Movement and American history itself, but often go unsung.

About the event

Would you believe me if I told you that there would be no Montgomery Bus Boycott if not for Black women? That a group of socially and civically engaged ladies had enough of the disenfranchisement and took matters into their own hands? It’s the truth. The Modern Civil Rights Movement as we know it today was heavily shaped by the visionaries of the Women’s Political Council in Montgomery, a group of working class women who wanted better for their community. The Boycott’s success would not be what it was without the work of Jo Ann Robinson, WPC’s president at the time. Come along as we dig into how a group of young students led by a tenacious educator helped take down the segregated bus system—and then some.
